Ribersborgsstranden
Address: Limhamnsvägen, 217 59 Malmö, Sweden
Known locally as “Ribban,” Ribersborgsstranden is Malmö’s beloved urban beach, stretching along the Öresund coast just minutes from the city center. It has become a model for inclusive seaside spaces in Scandinavia—designed for rest, recreation, and nature connection for people of all ages and mobility levels.
Whether for a summer swim, a peaceful stroll, or a picnic by the water, Ribban offers a welcoming environment with thoughtfully adapted infrastructure that guarantees safety, comfort, and autonomy for wheelchair users, older adults, families with strollers, and anyone with reduced mobility.
Accessibility and Arrival
Barrier-free entry and wooden walkways
Multiple access points are distributed along the entire beach. Wide, gently sloping non-slip wooden paths connect the promenade to compact sand, rest zones, and bathing areas. These walkways ensure easy transitions from street level to the beach without physical obstacles.
Public transport and accessible bus stops
Ribban is served by Skånetrafiken bus lines 3 and 7. The nearby “Ribersborg” stop offers a paved, level path leading directly to the main access points. All buses are low-floor, equipped with ramps, priority seating, and designated wheelchair spaces.
Accessible parking
Reserved accessible parking spaces are available along Limhamnsvägen and in Ribban’s main parking lot. They are clearly marked, located within 100 meters of the beach access, and provide sufficient lateral space for van ramps and lift platforms.
On-Site Services and Facilities
Accessible bathing areas and amphibious wheelchairs
From June to August, the lifeguard station offers amphibious beach wheelchairs free of charge, available daily from 10:00 to 18:00. Staff are trained to assist users into the water safely. Ground-level outdoor showers are fitted with temperature controls, privacy panels, and maneuvering space for companions.
Accessible restrooms and shaded rest areas
Accessible toilets are located in the pavilion next to the beach café and include wide doorways, grab bars, adult-sized changing tables, and visual signage. Along the promenade, visitors will find accessible picnic tables, benches with backrests, and shaded seating areas.
Sensory-friendly environment
Ribban’s open, tranquil landscape offers a soothing setting for visitors with sensory sensitivities. Clear signage marks higher-traffic areas, while quieter zones with gentle sea breeze and natural sounds are easily found along the beach’s length.
