The Fallas:
The Fallas originated as a purification ritual in which people burned old items to symbolize the start of a new era.
Today, the Fallas have evolved into a significant cultural event for Valencians and a major attraction for tourists.
The core remains unchanged, with the monuments serving as a commentary on society, politics, and public figures. These structures symbolize events from the past year and are burned on March 19th as a means of purifying and starting a new cycle.
The Fallas week begins on March 15th with "La Plantà," when all the monuments are set up in the streets, and ends on March 19th with "La Cremà," the burning of the monuments. For five days, the city transforms into a non-stop festival of lights, music, and fireworks, with people filling the streets to walk, socialize, eat, dance, and more.
The Fallas are a public event, open to everyone. Valencia, being a well-designed city, offers good accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
