We had problems carrying the scooters on public transport. The drivers told us they weren’t allowed on trams nor on buses because they were too big, and that they can only accept wheelchairs anyway.

No fault of the company, Lisbon is just very hilly with windy roads and narrow sidewalks. Wheelchair made it easier.

Not just Lisbon but everywhere in the Douro valley. In great part this was due to the very hilly terrain in the cities and towns that made it difficult to impossible to negotiate with a wheelchair. The cruise leader and his staff were very helpful, even assisting with pushing the wheelchair up fairly steep inclines. Kudos to AMA for their assistance. But on the final day in Porto my brother-in-law simply could not participate in the tour of the city.

Lisbon was much more difficult getting around with a wheelchair than expected. The cobblestones, while nice to look at, are very rough pushing the wheelchair. Very few old churches and buildings have many steps and few ramps. We’re so glad that Portuguese strangers helped us out!
