Opinions about Lisbon

Lisbon isn’t the most accessible place to visit. There are zebra crossings for pedestrians but no kerb drop and so many oversights for mobility restricted users. Cafes with stepped entrances or toilets upstairs, non-accessible buses for tourists, even the MEO arena deprioritised disabled guests by making their essential companions sit away from them - that I felt was direct discrimination. The exception to poor accessibility was the very accessible Da Vinci shopping centre which was great.

With its narrow sidewalks with smooth and misaligned cobblestones, very steep access ramps and many ups and downs in the city, Lisbon is one of the most complicated cities for those who need help getting around. There are countless reports of people slipping on poorly made and slippery sidewalks. It is unbelievable that Lisbon and other cities in Portugal do not abandon this type of paving for a safer type. In the name of maintaining a cultural standard, they leave aside the safety of people.

Cobblestone is hard for manual wheelchair. Porto is worse though.
