Beaucoup de lieux publics et touristiques non accessibles avec des escaliers et peu de place de parking réservée. Encore beaucoup d’aménagements à faire.

Not just Lisbon but everywhere in the Douro valley. In great part this was due to the very hilly terrain in the cities and towns that made it difficult to impossible to negotiate with a wheelchair. The cruise leader and his staff were very helpful, even assisting with pushing the wheelchair up fairly steep inclines. Kudos to AMA for their assistance. But on the final day in Porto my brother-in-law simply could not participate in the tour of the city.

Lisbon was much more difficult getting around with a wheelchair than expected. The cobblestones, while nice to look at, are very rough pushing the wheelchair. Very few old churches and buildings have many steps and few ramps. We’re so glad that Portuguese strangers helped us out!

It is a difficult city to get around if you are using a wheelchair. The biggest problem is the lack of drop down curbs on the pavements and the cobbles on the roads make it difficult to cross the roads. We mostly had to go backwards to cross the roads. There were great efforts made in the metro stations with clear indication of wheelchair access stations. Most of the elevators worked, there were a couple that did not work.
