Ihr Ciutadella de Menorca Führer

Menorca is an island located in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea, part of the Balearic Islands archipelago in Spain. Its history dates back centuries, having been inhabited by various cultures such as the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, and Romans, who gave it its current name, Menorca.

UNESCO declared Menorca a biosphere reserve in 1993. The capital, Mahón, is less populated than Ciutadella, which is the island's largest city with a population of 100,000 (2021). During the summer, the population significantly increases.

Menorca is a perfect destination for all types of tourism, including accessible tourism for visitors with mobility issues. The island offers various activities and amenities to accommodate those with disabilities, including accessible beaches, sports such as adapted sailing and scuba diving, and cultural attractions like the Museu de Menorca, the 7 lighthouses route, markets, the Ciutadella opera house, and more.

Visitors with reduced mobility can enjoy comfortable, safe, and memorable holidays on the island. Motion4rent provides important information, tourist sites, accessible beaches, excursions, theme parks, restaurants, and other offers for visitors with disabilities. Enjoy your stay in Menorca!

Transport in Menorca:

In Menorca, public transport services are adapted and are by law, and the vast majority of its buses have special seats for people with reduced mobility and different disabilities, but we must say that this is only available on the main lines.

  • The Transportes Menorca company has a fleet of 27 buses to operate a total of 16 regular lines that circulate throughout the island. Its buses provide service 365 days a year and 60% of its fleet is accessible.
  • The Transportes Torres company also provides service in the main cities (Ciutadella Mahon and nearby) and 100% of its fleet is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Regarding the Taxi service, we propose a company that provides service throughout the island and has adapted vehicles

Taxis Menorca: This company has more than 100 taxis, 10 of them are adapted and provides service throughout the island.

Angepasste Strände

Among the many options available, the island has some beaches adapted for people with reduced mobility: accessible beaches that offer different services, such as reserved parking spaces, amphibious chairs and crutches, adapted changing rooms and toilets, walkways to facilitate access to the sand and staff prepared to offer support for bathing, allowing everyone who visits the island to enjoy the turquoise waters of Menorca.

Below we give you more details of some of the accessible beaches of Menorca:

 Cala Santandria (Ciutadella)

This is one of the adapted beaches in Menorca that you will like the most. It is an urban cove located 4 kilometers from Ciutadella, making it a perfect place to take a bath not far from the city. It is characterized by its clean and shallow waters, with fine sand, it is a beach very visited by people with disabilities since it has a surveillance post with lifeguards who offer bathers who request it amphibious chairs, crutches or amphibious walkers and also It has reserved parking for people with reduced mobility, accessible walkways and adapted toilets. In addition, in the surroundings there are quite a few beach bars and restaurants in case you prefer to stay in the shade or have a drink.

 Cala Galdana (Ferreries)

In Ferreries, you will find Cala Galdana, it is a very familiar beach and totally accessible to disabled people. It is one of the most popular on the island and also one of the most beautiful. We highly recommend it thanks to its calm waters, as they are ideal for bathing people with reduced mobility. It also has walkways to reach the sea and a surveillance post with lifeguards to provide help with the amphibious chair or with crutches. It also has a car park with access to get out of the car and leave someone near the beach, as well as adapted toilets with railings and accessible showers with a ramp.

Son Bou (Alaior)

This is the longest beach on the island, and is also very popular with locals and tourists, and of course it is accessible to people with reduced mobility. We must say that being a very open beach, there are days when it is difficult to bathe, and the lifeguards will advise you if it is feasible or not. Son Bou beach has very good access to get there by car, umbrellas and sun loungers, beach bars, a supermarket and all the facilities of the beaches adapted for wheelchairs such as: accessible ramps, adapted toilets, and adapted bathing devices (amphibious chairs, sand crutches, amphibious walkers…)

Cala en Porter (Alaior)

This cove, located between large cliffs and with very calm waters, is a wonder of nature and we highly recommend it. This cove has a surveillance post with lifeguards, access ramps, adapted toilets, amphibious chairs, crutches, walkers and a team of lifeguards prepared and trained to help you at all times. where there are two amphibious chairs, sand crutches and amphibious walkers available to bathers who need it to cool off in the sea accompanied by the rescue team. And as if that were not enough, you will also find several beach bars and restaurants where you can have a snack or eat good rice.

In addition to all these beaches that we have suggested, we also encourage you to visit the beach located in the s'Albufera Natural Park, which is also accessible to people with reduced mobility, and is located in a key point of the Biosphere Reserve. The park's protected natural area encompasses a great diversity of environments: wetlands, agricultural and livestock land, forests, a coastline with cliffs and beaches, islets and a marine area. Disabled people can make the itineraries of the Park with a free loan adapted chair, which must be requested in advance.
